As I travel home for Christmas, I had to decided days ago what makeup I want to use on Christmas Day. Although, I was able to pack both my light and full coverage foundations and a couple of eyeshadow palettes (I certainly didn’t pack light… and I travelled by train…) so I have been a little more versatile.
I had a couple of primers which I could have brought, but I chose the Smashbox Hydrating Primer in the end. Hydrating primers have certainly been my choice more recently and this one sits very nicely on the skin, doesn’t affect my eczema and all of my foundations and concealers sit very nicely on top (unlike my Too Faced Hangover Primer) so it was the best one for the job.
Most days now, I don’t actually wear foundation, but if I am, I have two to choose from this time of year. For light daily wear I have the Bare Minerals Original foundation, or for special occasions/nights out, I have the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation. This is very light on the skin but has good buildable coverage for me which lasts the day, so I have decided the latter will be best for Christmas Day. If that’s not a special occasion, I don’t know when is.
Really, concealer will depend on the day, but it will be between the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer and the Benefit Industrial Strength Boi-ing Concealer. I will probably go with the Urban Decay concealer as it’s a little more lightweight from being a liquid, but if I need more coverage, I’ll go with the Benefit one.
For my powder, I’ll actually be using a product I’ve not yet mentioned on here. On black Friday, I finally decided (after a good year or so of deliberation to order myself the travel size of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. I didn’t want to jump straight into the full size because it would be a LOT of money going to waste if I didn’t like it. Although, I didn’t need to worry about that because I love it. It leaves my skin with a soft glow but doesn’t look glittery or cakey, it’s perfect.
To begin with, I’ll use my Urban Decay Primer Potion to help the lasting power, then use my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. This is a palette that I will always have in my collection, and always go back to, it’s got such beautiful and pigmented shades which are perfect for this time of year. I will probably go in with the brown/ gold shades and not the pinky shades because gold is definitely more festive to me. Finally, I will top my eyeshadow with a little Stila Glitter and Glow in Smoky Storm to really up the festive feeling.
The mascara I will be using is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. This separates my lashes nicely and adds a good amount of volume so overall, I really like it. This is definitely my favourite low-cost mascara.
For my brows, I will just run my well trusted Collection Colourlash Clear Mascara through to hold the hairs in place.
Finishing Face Products
I personally don’t really contour so I won’t be using any products for that, but I will dust on a little bit of bronzer from my Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer to add a little warmth to my face. Maybe it’ll stop my Gran telling me I look too pale?
For blush I’ll probably use the Stila Convertible Colour in Camellia topped with the Too Faced Love Flushed blusher in Baby Love. By using the cream Stila blush first, I’m hoping my blush will last better.
This is a very difficult decision to make on a day when all I do is eat. I’ll certainly use my Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream as a lip balm, and I may also use the Eight Hour tinted lip balm in plum to add a little colour. Alternatively, I could use my Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Liar or Burberry Kisses Lipstick in Sepia… I’ll make that decision on the day.
So that’s what I’m planning on using! I’ll post a picture of the look to my Instagram on the day so take a look there if you want to see how it turns out!
Let me know what staple products you’ll be reaching for on the day or whether you’ll be waiting to see what treat Santa may have brought for you to try!
