Back in the summer, I went on holiday to Barcelona and flew from London Stansted Airport but got the Dover-Calais Ferry Crossing back. While in Barcelona, I also had a little visit to a Sephora (first time ever!) so I had plenty of opportunities to shop and certainly made the most of it so I thought I’d share my haul with you.
There was certainly a LOT of choice walking through World Duty Free and I could have easily spent a lot of money, however, I restrained myself and just got a couple of my favourite products that I’m running low on.
Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Fairly Light
This is a long-time love of mine, I go back to it in September/October through to March/April every year as my quick daytime foundation because it’s not heavy or cakey, it’s quick to apply and it gives a lovely level of coverage and a semi-matte finish on my skin through the cooler months which is what I prefer.
Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment
As I have said several times previously, this is my holy grail eye cream. It dramatically reduces the effects eczema has on my skin and leaves it feeling so smooth and hydrated. Having had a couple of years break from it, I can’t bare that again so I’m making sure I don’t run out while I’m broke back at university and I picked up the large 28g tub, as the 14g tub generally lasts me 5/6 months, the 28g tub should last me well beyond next July – fingers crossed!
This was the first time I had ventured into a Sephora and it was rather overwhelming! There was so much choice, I spent so long looking round and deciding what I wanted. I was of course suckered in by the travel size items by the counter too…
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II
While we do have Kat Von D here in the UK, I am still yet to visit a counter and I don’t like choosing products online having not seen them in person as I don’t know how the colours are going to work with my skin tone. I was very happy to be able to finally have a proper look at the products and I decided that Lolita II was a lovely shade for me and I have already had a lot of use out of it.
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask – 10ml
This was the first travel size item to catch my attention. I have had a sample of this before and I did enjoy it but never went and purchased it so I decided to try the small travel size, especially as my skin was suffering while we were away – too much salt water! The jury is still out for me on whether it’s worth the full price as I have a lot of other products which are just as moisturising and hydrating so I don’t think I will repurchase for the time being.
Yet another pre-paying grab, I had been considering getting this before I got the Urban Decay Concealer but I didn’t have anywhere easy to get it so seeing the travel size, I just had to go for it. As I didn’t shade test beforehand, I’m very lucky that it is actually a great match for my skin tone and I am loving the texture at the moment.
I tried a small sample of this given to me by a friend last year and I loved it. Due to the price and need to order online, I never repurchased, however it’s something that’s been on my mind for a long time so when I saw the travel size, I couldn’t not pick it up. I still love the effect I get with this and how it makes my lashes look, however, it may have been overtaken by Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes now so I’m not sure I will repurchase again.
I hadn’t planned to spend money on makeup on the boat but I just couldn’t resist these products…
I have been trying a lot of new primers recently like the TooFaced Hangover Primer, but this was recommended to me and, with my skin feeling a bit dry and on the verge of eczema, I decided to try something a bit more dedicated to hydration before I apply foundation. This had been recommended to me for my skin about a month ago but I was put off by the price but with the duty free saving I just couldn’t resist. So far it seems to work well with my eczema and I do find it hydrating but I’m not a massive fan of the smell.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Fragrance Free
This was very much a desperate purchase. The salt water while on holiday had really affected my eczema and I had stupidly forgotten to pack my prescription creams so I was desperate for something to use to help. I chose this because the texture of it is very thick and leaves a residue like an ointment and I was hoping this would act as a barrier to stop anything that would aggravate the problem from coming into contact. It has certainly done that and made such a massive difference, I have barely touched my prescription creams since. I already think this will become a staple product for me.
So there we have it! My recent splurges which I am now testing out. I would love to know what you think of these products and what you would have picked up in Duty Free!
